Heather Watkins (b. 1969) is an artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her work takes many forms, oscillating between drawing and sculpture, text and textile, to explore the nature and nuance of line—as form, gesture, expression, and sensation. Her iterative, experimental process embraces flux states and unforeseen results and is energized by a continuous interplay between language and material.
Watkins has exhibited widely, and her work is held in public and private collections, including the Portland Art Museum, the Miller Meigs Collection, Reed College, Oregon State University, and numerous library collections. She has been awarded grants and residencies from Oregon Arts Commission, Regional Arts & Culture Council, Stelo Arts, and Sitka Center for Art & Ecology, among others. Watkins holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and a dual BA in English & World Literature and Classical Studies, from Pitzer College. She is represented by PDX CONTEMPORARY ART.
